Surprise! – The new GEO R5 is here! At the beginning of June, Planet Eclipse presented us with its new GEO with the model name R5 as if out of nowhere and without much advance notice. Of course, we didn't miss the opportunity, quickly changed the editorial plan and used the GEO R5 for our product test. Be excited to see what the result was and what the new Planet Eclipse GEO R5 can do. Let's get started…
GEO fans around the world were surprised with huge news a few weeks ago. Planet Eclipse introduced its brand new GEO R5 practically overnight at the beginning of June. At first glance, the new model is very similar to the CS3. The body, the handles, the trigger, the POPS-ASA, the barrel, the backcap and simply the whole look of the marker are very reminiscent of the current high-end model from Planet. But if you take a closer look and take a look inside, it quickly becomes clear that this is a completely new marker that is significantly different from the CS3. In today's article, we want to explain the product features of the GEO R5 and also go into the differences to the CS3 and the previous model GEO4. But let's start with the packaging… The GEO R5, like all current high-end markers from Planet Eclipse, is delivered in attractive packaging consisting of a high-quality printed cardboard box with a banderol, which in turn contains a soft case with the marker. The marker naturally also comes with a number of accessories. The two-part 14.5 inch S63 barrel is supplied with the GEO R5 including two PWR cases (.685 and .689) and ensures maximum precision with every shot. There is also a barrel condom for safety, a hexagon wrench set, a tube of Planet Eclipse grease and a GEO R5 spare parts set with lots of small parts and seals for maintaining your marker. Last but not least, the extensive, illustrated operating instructions in English. A special component that makes the GEO so special is the so-called SFR, with which you can individually adjust the bolt acceleration on the marker. We will go into this in more detail later. Two different SFRs are included in the delivery. One with a smaller adjustment range is pre-installed in the marker, a second with a much larger adjustment range is included separately as an upgrade part. But now let's get to the actual marker…
What is noticeable at first glance is the simple body design. The body blends seamlessly into the handles and that is where we notice the first big difference. The eye covers are simply missing. Planet has integrated these underneath the front grip on its new GEO R5. This makes it even easier to access for maintenance and at the same time this very sensitive part of the marker is even better protected from dirt and paint. What is also noticeable here in comparison to the CS3 and GEO4 is that the replacement ball detent has been omitted. There is no space for this on the GEO R5. Experience has simply shown that it is hardly ever needed and so this step has been reversed. For all players from Germany, it should be noted at this point that the F stamp is also underneath the front grip, so you don't have to look for it on the body for long.
Next, we want to take a closer look inside the marker. To do this, we remove the bolt. The GEO R5 also uses the toolless design of the previous models. Pull up the back cap and the bolt can be removed to the rear. Without any tools. At first glance, it is an IV Core bolt system. At second glance, however, it is noticeable that the bolt is around 3 cm longer than in the previous model GEO4. This means a considerable increase in the volume in the bolt chamber and therefore a much smoother shot pattern and a quieter sound signature when shooting. Planet has also made some changes to the arrangement of the O-rings. Furthermore, the air flow has been further optimized by even larger holes in the rear area of the bolt.
A very interesting component of the GEO R5, which also has something to do with the bolt function, is the SFR screw, which is already known from the GEO4. This is responsible for the so-called flow restrictor, which regulates the force with which the bolt moves forward when fired. GEO players love this feature and really wanted it back, because it allows for very individual bolt settings, which allow you to fire even the most brittle types of paint without any problems, in almost all weather conditions. What is new with the GEO R5 is that, compared to the GEO4, the SFR screw is no longer located at the front in front of the trigger guard, but has moved to the back of the handle, directly below the solenoid.
This ensures even greater effectiveness and shorter air paths. In addition to the standard SFR, you also have the option of installing a second model that offers an even wider range of setting options. This is included separately with the GE R5. We would like to point out at this point that you should know a little about the function of the marker and the necessary settings. Beginners should play with the SFR in its standard version and play around with it as little as possible or approach the topic slowly.
Next up is the air supply of the GEO R5. The inline regulator and the solenoid are technically based on the CS3 and many of the tried and tested parts from the current high-end model have been adopted. In conclusion, we can say that the new GEO R5 is a good mix of CS3 and GEO4, but ultimately it is a bit more CS3-like. Add to that a few interesting upgrades such as the new bolt system or the concealed eye covers and you have a real, new high-end marker. This is also reflected in the price, however, and the GEO R5, with an entry-level price of 1895 euros gross, is only around 100 euros less than the CS3. So if you don't have the money to spare to buy two expensive high-end paintball markers, you now have to make the difficult decision: do I prefer the GEO or the CS model? We are sure that both models will find their fans and enthusiasts, because in both cases they are absolute high-end markers with top performance. In any case, we hope you have a lot of fun with the new Planet Eclipse GEO R5. By the time this issue is published, the new model should already be available in stores. So if you've got a taste for it, you can go to your trusted Planet dealer and take a look at the new GEO R5.
Do you want more details and more precise information about the new Planet Eclipse GEO R5? Then watch the video that we have linked to you at the bottom of the article. There, the German Planet Eclipse technician Patrick shows in detail the differences and new features of the bolt system, as well as the entire marker, and makes an exciting comparison between the GEO R5, GEO4 and CS3. All of this is in German, of course, so that no questions are left unanswered.
